Necklaces
Necklaces come in many forms. Some of the styles that endure have specific names, and their classic nature makes them worth mention. I will also present information on selecting the right length.
Chains
Because chains are traditionally one color with fairly simple links, they can go with anything. However, that is not to say that chains are without interest. Some designs include links of different sizes and textures to make them more eye-appealing. Chain maille techniques also make dramatic and beautiful jewelry. Different kinds of chain include Byzantine, Cable, Rollo, and Viking Knit.
Pendants
Sometimes it is the simple things that make the strongest statement. Pendants, whether worn alone or as part of a necklace design, are meant to draw the eye. Simple pendants, single or even double, can be worn with anything. Pendants that are incorporated into a more elaborate piece create a focal point and help to draw the piece, and the entire ensemble, together.
Strands
The traditional strand is the pearl necklace, but more generally is
a single type of bead (normally stone) closely knotted together.
There are many beautiful options for strands in color, size, and
texture; pearls, while magnificent, are not your only choice. The
standard size of strand beads is 5-8mm and can be worn with almost
anything; larger stones are often reserved for regalia.
Necklaces
Compared to the other design options presented, the general term necklace refers to a combination of features taken from the above to create a piece of art to be work around the neck.
Length
16" (Choker Length)
Sits just above the collar bone and emphasizes the neckline. Works
best with dresses or shirts with a high neckline where a longer
necklace might get lost under the collar.
18" (Princess Length)
This is the most common length, hanging just over the collar bone.
This works very well with shirts with a low neckline, like a v-neck
or scoop neck shirt. If worn with a higher collar, these necklaces
might disappear underneat the clothing.
24" (Opera Length)
This length (or longer) drapes down (or over) the breast. The style
is worn over clothing and works very well when you wish to add something
eye-catching to simple outfit.

Earrings
For many people, earrings are the jewelry they wear most often; some
people never take them out. Thus, the most important consideration
is of comfort: ensuring the metal does not create an alergic reaction
(like Nickel does in 5% of wearers), that it is not too heavy, and
that it will not catch on the outfit(s) or hair style with which
they will be worn.
Studs
Studs are simply a decorative end on the post worn through the ear
and can be worn at any time with anything. Frequently studs are
gemstones set into a setting on the post, but can also include metal
designs or a helf-drilled gemstone set directly onto the post.
Hoops
Hoops are another great option with a little more variety than studs.
Simple hoops are just wire with the ends connecting in some manner
after they are strung through the ears. These are usually light
weight and can be work for extended periods of time. Hoop options
vary in size and the ends do not connect in all designs, which is
a fine feature for earrings which will only be worn with a specific
costume and not for any length of time.
Drops
Drops have the most variety. The simplest version would be a simple
bead or gemstone hanging from a loop on a stud. One current example
of elaborate drops are chandelier earrings. The advantage of drops
is the way they move and draw the eye to the face, a great option
with simpler outfits with few other accessories.

Bracelets
Bracelets have similar options as necklaces, and while certain styles tend to be used more for bracelets than necklaces (or vice versa), the designs can be applied to both kinds of jewelry.
Bangles
Bangles are usually made from a single piece of metal and are notable by the rigidity of the pieces. Simple bangles can be worn together, either loose or tied together. Bangles can also be elaborate and worn alone.
Charm
Charm bracelets begin as a chain and eponymous charms are added to the links. Charm bracelets often have a theme and, unless the bracelet is specifically designed to be changable, the charms are meant to be permanent. Overall, charm bracelets are meant to add whimsy, movement, and sound to your finery.
Length
The standard bracelet length is 7-7.5 inches, which will fit the average
adult woman's wrist. If stones in the design are particularly large,
the bracelet will need to be longer, but will fit like a smaller
bracelet. Wrist sizes, however, are not all the same, so you will
need to check if you need a bracelet resized.
For a perfect fit, use a flexible tape measure to measure your wrist
and the widest part of your hand (as if you were going to put on
a bangle) and the designer can ensure you receive the proper size.
Resizing is a service most designers will perform for little to
no cost.
